Technical seminar on the Renesas Synergy platform, focused on a point that gets lost in most microcontroller comparisons: total cost of ownership.

The argument, in short — the development environment is part of the cost, roughly 7% of it as software licensing. Complex projects tend to have low production volumes, which means you never get to amortise tooling costs across units. Renesas prices the chip slightly higher but folds the development solution into it, which comes out ahead precisely at low volume.

Platforms and vendors covered: the RL78 and RX63 lines, plus Express Logic, Artos and IAR on the tooling side.
